Q&A: Is Soy Lecithin Paleo?

Hi Neely, I just noticed that one of my supplements contains soy lecithin. I know it's a by product of the soy after the oil has been extracted and according to the information I've attached, it is actually not very good for you, despite previous claims that it is excellent for many things. They say that even though it's an extract there always remains some soy in it. Would you suggest I discontinue this stuff? Thanks for your response. Mark … Continue reading

Q&A: Are Chickens That Ate Soy and Corn Paleo?

Here's a Q&A that affects every Paleo chicken eater...   Hi Neely, My question today is about chicken.  Ever since we started the Paleo diet, we've also begun to buy organic chicken with no ant-biotics or hormones added.  They are also free ranging.  We buy them at a store called Trader Joe's.  I happened to look at the label today and I realized that these chickens, according to the label, are fed a diet consisting of Corn and Soybean meal. How does … Continue reading

Q&A: Why Are Seeds Paleo But Not Seed Oils?

Hi Neely, On the "Paleo Diet Food List" it states sunflower seeds are acceptable to eat, but on the "Paleo Plan Food Guide" it states not to eat sunflower oil. Can you please expound on that.  Thanks. Eternally confused, Mark ________________________________________________________________ Hi Mark, I'm not sure which "Paleo Diet Food List" you're talking about, but even on the Paleo Plan Food Guide it says seeds (including sunflower seeds) are acceptable to eat. I understand why that would be confusing. Here's … Continue reading

Help! How Can Our Troops Stay Paleo?

This Q&A is for all those Paleo people who also happen to be in the armed forces eating foods from the U.S. military's dining facilities. I tried my best to give some advice to Sarah, who wrote us the email below asking about how she can stay Paleo in Afghanistan, but please comment below if you have any words of wisdom! Hey Paleo Plan Team! I was recently a member of your website and absolutely loved your menu plans. You … Continue reading

Q&A: Ultramarathoners and Paleo

Here's a good question from a pretty serious runner I thought you all might be interested in. I have a question... my husband and I are ultra marathoners. We are wondering if eating Paleo is safe for us? We ve been on it for almost 5 weeks, no cheating at all. Stuck to the diet but unfortunately, we felt so weak and fatigue. Not to mention crankiness! We have a race this Saturday running 50K.... We try to eat sweet … Continue reading

Q&A: Breastfeeding While Starting Paleo

Judging by the number of questions we received this week about breastfeeding while eating Paleo, there are a whole lot of nursing moms out there wanting to go Paleo. Here's one of those questions and my answer to it below. Q: Hi Neely, My question relates to detox & breastfeeding, my wife & I have been eating Paleo, but my concern is that whatever her body removes through detoxing is going into her breast milk. Can you offer any insights … Continue reading

Q&A: Curbing Cravings, Almond Allergies, and Eating Out

We received some great questions recently about lingering cravings, subbing out flours for nut allergies and how to turn down food at friends' houses. I thought I'd share them here for anyone who has similar concerns. Q: Curbing Cravings I am still having cravings and giving into them for bread and sweets. Not huge quantities but a definite "need" to have a piece or two of bread each day. I've been sticking to rice based gluten-free bread but would honestly … Continue reading

Q&A: Saturated Fat, Dairy, Breakfast, Salt

I have to say I miss writing on the blog every couple of days, but I'm happy to announce that we're in the process of writing The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Paleolithic Diet right now, so I'm a bit busy! In about a month, blogging will commence as usual. In the meantime, here's a great set of questions (with answers) I thought a lot of you would appreciate. Dear Paleo Plan, Are chicharrons (fried pig skins) acceptable for the … Continue reading

Reader Questions Answered

We received a couple great questions recently - one on the role of nuts in the Paleo diet, and Paleo Plan in particular.  The other is yet another continuation of our story of Barb, but it's on the importance of breakfast for weight loss.  Read on! Here's the first one on nuts. I noticed in the menu that there is a decent amount of nut products used. I, however, just read an article regarding the anti-nutritive properties of nuts and … Continue reading

She answered some of my questions from the post, and gave us more details about her situation. Dear Neely, Thank you … Continue reading

Q&A: Fatigue and That Pesky Belly Fat

A member recently wrote us in response to my recent post, Paleo for the Active Person, and I thought some of you might be able to relate. Q: I’m stuck. I haven’t lost weight (belly fat) in two months. I strictly eat Paleo via the plan everyday… week after week and now month after month. I walk and was even going to the gym… until the low energy got the better of me. I have hypothyroidism… and according to my … Continue reading

Q&A: Overwhelmed at the Store!

Here's a question from a member I thought some of you might be able to relate to. Q: I am brand new to this diet. I was recommended to it by my CrossFit trainer. Wanting and needing to get in the best shape of my life is a huge priority to me. Especially since I am working on a career in Law Enforcement. Being 5"1 and in okay shape just will not cut it as a police officer. So, my … Continue reading

Q&A: Fruit Juices

Here's an interesting question from a reader who must have read my post, "Q&A: What Do I Drink?" Q: Hi!  I am new to the Paleo diet.  My CrossFit gym just finished a 30 day challenge (I lost 9 pounds and 3% body fat during the month of April - whoa!), and I was wondering why you suggest only drinking fruit juice that you have made at home?  If it's 100% juice, it's still not ok?  Is there a certain … Continue reading
