Top 5 Paleo Foods For Clear Skin

young-women-with-beautiful-skin-web.jpgAs we approach the summer, it’s the time of year when people like to let their skin show more. More sun time and less make-up can leave some wishing for colder weather if acne or other skin conditions are a problem. Not only is Paleo a great diet for helping to get clearer skin, but there are specific foods that can help to bring more clarity to the body’s largest organ.

organic-sweet-potato-sm-150x150.jpgSweet potatoes — These root vegetables will help provide a hefty dose of vitamin A for your body. Vitamin A is beneficial for so many things like vision, immunity, and bone health, but it also nourishes the skin and helps the skin to act as a good barrier against bacterial sources of infection.

broccoli-web-150x150.jpgBroccoli — This cruciferous vegetable is rich in folate and numerous other vitamins that help the skin to retain its youthful appearance. It is also strongly anti-inflammatory and can help to reduce total body inflammation.

You can mix other ingredients with it, or you can just mash it and slather it on. (It’s also a great hair mask for extra-dry hair, too!) Avocado is rich in folate, vitamin K, and fiber, and contains many properties that fight inflammation.

As you’ll notice, foods that are nourishing for the skin all contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Additionally, skin conditions are exacerbated by junk foods and artificial ingredients, so it is also especially helpful to follow a Paleo diet if you’re trying to beat acne, psoriasis, eczema, and other topical skin conditions. While Paleo may not be a cure for these, it will certainly go far in reducing inflammation within your body and help to restore natural vibrance to your skin and the rest of your organs.
