Hungry All Day? Snacking A Lot? Let’s Fix That.

This post may be relevant to you whether you eat Paleo or not. It doesn't matter if you're eating grains, sugar, dairy, and legumes or a Paleo diet, you may be suffering from the hungries all day. Here's what you can do to fix it. 1. Eat more breakfast. If you're eating 2 eggs and 1 piece of bacon for breakfast and then wondering why you're so blasted hungry 1 hour later, it's because you're not eating enough food. The … Continue reading

Ketosis Experiment Update: I Yield

As one commenter put it, I've cravenly gone "running back to my 'safe starches'" after experimenting with nutritional ketosis (NK) for a paltry 6 days. After my update last Thursday, I made it one more day and then gave up. The meal pictured here was the safe starch bomb that rescued me from NK. It was a banana tapioca crepe topped with an entire 10-ounce bag of frozen blackberries cooked in a tablespoon of maple syrup. It was amazing. And it … Continue reading

Paleo dog Zala

My Dog Eats (Mostly) Paleo

This is my dog, Zala. She is 5 years old and she's never been to the vet for anything except to get a chipped tooth removed and to be spayed. No, she does not usually wear leg warmers, but that day she was feeling particularly stylish, so she asked to borrow them from me. Zala is a border collie mix and she enjoys sprinting at a freakishly fast pace to retrieve balls and frisbees. She has more energy than any … Continue reading

Q&A: Ultramarathoners and Paleo

Here's a good question from a pretty serious runner I thought you all might be interested in. I have a question... my husband and I are ultra marathoners. We are wondering if eating Paleo is safe for us? We ve been on it for almost 5 weeks, no cheating at all. Stuck to the diet but unfortunately, we felt so weak and fatigue. Not to mention crankiness! We have a race this Saturday running 50K.... We try to eat sweet … Continue reading

The Calcium Conundrum

There’s a calcium craze going on right now in this country.  In order to fulfill the lofty calcium RDA of about 1 gram per day, women everywhere are eating dairy like it’s their job. On top of that, people are supplementing extravagant amounts of the stuff in the form of  sugary, chocolatey calcium candies and pills. Despite all this, osteoporosis rates are not decreasing. Here's another paradox. The U.S. has one of the highest rates of osteoporosis and one of … Continue reading

Meat Is Not The Devil

I just received an email from a vegan chef, touting the new movie with T. Colin Campbell, "Forks Over Knives".  Why someone would send ME a link to a vegan propaganda movie is beyond me, but then again it fueled the fire for this blog post...  Anyway, T. Colin Campbell is the guy behind the China Study, both the actual study and the popular book by that name.  It's one of the latest anti-meat campaigns, claiming that protein in general … Continue reading

Evolution of the fat man

Will I Lose Weight on Paleo?

I've only had one weight-loss client come see me who actually said, "My main motivation for losing weight is that I want to look hot." Finally, someone just came out and said it! We all want to look hot, whether we admit it or not, and we all look our best when we're at our optimal weight. The Paleo way of living has become popular partly because it helps people get there, whether that means gaining muscle, losing fat or both. Of course, in the … Continue reading
