This question is from a reader at Paleo Plan. What do YOU do to change your diet as an athlete on Paleo?
“Super interested in trying this and have made some pretty serious changes to my diet before starting this like eliminating caffeine, limiting/eliminating alcohol, soda, grains, dairy but am feeling like I’m not getting enough carbs or something.
I feel pretty gnarly, really fatigued and my muscle recovery is trashed right now. Some of this is surely my body going through withdrawals, but I’m curious to know if there are some things you guys recommend for serious athletes.”
Besides giving your body time to adapt to the cleaner eating, you also will need to modify your carb intake during the time surrounding your work outs. By how much depends on how long or intense your work out is that day (or days). Read the “The Paleo Diet For Athletes” by Cordain/Friel, where they outline and explain in detail these zones. This book is a must for any serious endurance athlete changing to the paleo routine.
